I hung out with the Thomas family again yesterday. I went to Christopher's baseball scrimmage, then hung out with them that night. Christopher did great, he had one especially good out where a left-handed batter hit the ball just in front of third base, and Christopher quickly dove, throwing his body just far enough to make the catch. Rather than landing on his face, he did it "James Bond" style... He caught it and did the ol' tuck and roll, and came off the ground looking like a champion. He did great. I haven't been around baseball enough to know what a good pitching arm is like, but he sure could pitch too.
They always have good food over at their place. About 90% of the home-cooked meals I've had since moving to Charlotte have been there, what generous people. We talked and laughed, we played texas-hold'em, Cole showed off his mad awesome skate-boarding skills, it was a lot of fun.
After the kids went to bed, Josh and I stayed up a while just talking about Hope Church, and the community of Charlotte. I like his opinions, he grew up real traditional as a small-town kid like me. One thing I love about Josh and Noelle is that both of them have big hearts. They feel for certain people in their circle of friends and neighbors. They're genuinely compassionate, and they're not afraid to let it show... If you ask me, compassion is what changes the world... That is, compassion like that, which isn't afraid to be expressed; especially acted upon, which is what they have done... That's the gospel, really: Compassion expressed and acted upon by a God who cares and loves. And he's asked us to do the same, and it encourages me to see people like the Thomas' who are doing just that.....
