The other day, I woke up and decided that I was going to fast my breakfast and lunch for the next few days. As I much as I wish I could write now about the incredible things that God did in me, honoring me for making a sacrifice, I can't... Why?...Cuz this fat kid had to eat! :D I think the hardest thing for me to give up is food, seriously... I had a thought though, and I believe it was from God.
What if when we were preparing to consecrate a fast, God stood before us and said "Listen, if you fast X amount of meals for X amount of days, 500 people will get saved because of it." I think that, honestly, it would make the fast much easier. Or maybe instead of saying to you "500 people will get saved," what if he said "Your gonna get a raise" or perhaps "Your college tuition is gonna be taken care of" or how about "You'll have your dream job within a week" or even "You will be healed!" I think that if this were the case, it would make our venture of what is now our so called- "faith" much easier.
Everyday, on TV, Radio, and the internet, we see and hear Ad Sales that say "SATISFACTION GUARANTEED!" As Americans, and simply humans, we want to know that if we're gonna put our money out there, that we will be happy with what we get for it. It dawned on me that I personally tend to carry that same mindset over with my relationship with God. "God, I'll fast and pray for my family, or my church, or my finances." But when we see no immediate results, or the results we didn't expect, we tend to grow disgusted with such faith practices, at least I know I have.
The lesson that God has taught me through this is simply this: genuine faith requires no guarantee for satisfaction.
